With Easter approaching many people are planning their holidays and trips with the kids and family. When considering Motorhome hire Scotland, the Island of Millport (Great Cumbrae) is a great destination for a short Motorhome or Campervan trip as it’s so easily accessible from Glasgow, and has loads to do and see. Combine a visit with a trip down the Ayrshire coast visiting some lovely seaside towns and you have a great options for a short Easter Motorhome break.
You can take the ferry to Millport from Largs which is a pretty little seaside town twenty five miles from Glasgow. The roll on / roll off ferry takes Motorhomes and the crossing only takes 15 minutes. There are loads of options on the Island for wild camping in your Motorhome or Campervan and also some hardstanding pitches with electricity at the Millport Holiday Park.
The Island itself is only 10 miles in circumference but there are outstanding walks to be had with trails all over the hills to deserted bays and beaches. The road around the island is nice and flat and is popular for cycling. A cycle at moderate pace will let you complete the circuit in under 2 hours. Take your binoculars and enjoy great sea views and wildlife spotting.
The Island is known for having the smallest cathedral in Europe which seats only seventy four people and boasts some nice architectural features. For fans of classical music there are often musical performances on a Sunday with local and visiting musicians.
For great views north to Mull and beyond take a trip up to the lovely golf club which sits at the highest point of the island. To the west lies the view to Mull of Kintyre and to the south the isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig. The course itself is a great little 18 hole challenge and the green fees are very reasonable.
For food and drink there are some lovely pubs and restaurants dotted around the island, as well as ice cream parlours. and traditional seaside shops.
All in all for a short Motorhome or Campervan holiday in Scotland, Millport is a great and easily accessible destination.
